About us

Grow Your Own Theatre is designed to be somewhere where you can experience inclusive, affordable and creative drama and theatremaking classes in Walthamstow. Walthamstow is a hugely diverse and artistic borough, yet we have no arts centre and, it seems, a lack of space for young people to create drama. I had a teeny-tiny idea which I shared on twitter, and before I knew it, Grow Your Own Theatre was born.

Grow Your Own Theatre makes shows from scratch with young people – no scripts, no auditions, rather lots of experimenting and lots of ideas. I have BIG plans for the business but with so many wild and wonderful ideas, I am trying to start small and grow the business organically. So... we are about to start our second year of Youth Theatre for 11-15yrs and our third term of  Theatremakers for 9-11yrs. The groups are performing their next show on 9th July at The Mill  (details here!). Exciting! And we are waiting to see when we can meet to run the next Wild Theatre project - the last was great fun, creating and presenting a performance in the very small Arts and Crusts Cafe with 15-19yr olds.

Ah, but we haven't forgotten the little ones - Saturday Seedlings runs every second Saturday of the month, taking 3-6yrs(ish) on a creative and child-led storytelling adventure. And we are about to run taster projects for 6-8yrs and 18mths-3yrs. Phew!

I believe everybody has stories to share and am delighted to be providing some space to share them. If you would like to help get Grow Your Own Theatre growing, and planting seeds of inspiration all over E17, you can support us by booking for a class, donating, coming to our meetings or coming to see a show.

Thanks!
